ESOL/Citizenship

English Classes (ESL)

Created in 2005, the mission of NOAH’s ESOL program is to help new Bostonians learn, improve, and practice their use of the written and oral English language in a comfortable, communal environment, and to encourage engagement in building a stronger community. Our ESOL program matches the needs of the immigrant population by providing beginner and intermediate-level instruction geared towards personal goals the students articulate themselves. Each year, over 200 residents attend our ESOL program. As a result, they can participate in community and school leadership, making East Boston a better place to live, work, and go to school. The majority of ESOL programs at other organizations have either extensive waiting lists or fees too high for most of our community members to afford. It is overwhelmingly clear that the demand for education is high, but the supply is low. Additionally, NOAH offers an ‘Intro to Citizenship’ course to help community members navigate the citizenship application process as well as ‘Tech Goes Home’ computer education programming.
